I’ve been playing piano for quite some time, and in the last few years I started taking things a bit more seriously by recording and putting some of my songs online. I’ve released a few short albums and put a bunch of songs on various places online, but there was nothing that I felt was really great.
The other day I started listening to songs I had recorded over the last few months, most of which I had recorded at the end of a workday as a nice way to relax and get my creative juices flowing. I was surprised by the quality of many of the songs, so I decided to make an album and release them after doing some light editing.
And so “A Succession of Moments” was born: a set of 19 songs that I am proud to release for completely free on SoundCloud. Previously I had used a distributor that put my songs on various places in an attempt to monetize things, but I realized that my purpose is really not to make money, but to rather just get my songs out there. SoundCloud seemed like my best one-stop-shop to distribute things without any monetization (it’s possible you will hear ads between songs, but I don’t get any money from those).
I also enabled downloads of all the songs so you can listen to them offline without advertisements or other distractions.
If you’ve never heard my music before, I’ll just say it’s a unique mix of classical, jazz, and new age. Many of the songs are more about atmosphere, though a few of them have strong melodies. I should also mention that the songs are all made on my Yamaha G5 grand piano, for the most part on a single take with little or no pre-composition. At least one of the songs is an anime-music inspired piece, which those of you anime-lovers might enjoy.
If you do take a listen, please like any tracks that you particularly enjoyed as it will inform my future compositions.
Thanks much to my wife, Jim Miles and Priya Singh for being beta listeners and giving good feedback.
