If Pianos Could: Flow [Solo album released]

(Jump right to the music)

A little while back I announced the release of my first piano album (using the artist name “If Pianos Could”), which you can read about here. This was mostly made from songs I had recorded before I had plans to put the songs out in album form. All of the songs were recorded on my old Yamaha G2 (which has since been traded away).

I just released my 2nd album, “Flow”, which contains a total of 10 songs. A few are recorded on the G2 (you can tell since it’s a little out of tune in the high register), and the remainder are recorded with my newly acquired G5, a grand piano with new bass strings for an extra robust sound. By the way, the song “Farewell G2” was the last song I played on that piano before I traded in the G2, and is dedicated to that piano that served me well.

As per the title, these songs are more about the flow of the music in the moment, and less about having a strong melody. Most of the songs were done on the spot with a single take, though I did spend a bit more time on editing for this album, including doing some EQ on several of the tracks. I also added nature sounds to two of the tracks for extra atmosphere.

The song “College Try” is a bit different in that I spent time composing it little by little over a 2-week period. It’s fairly short but the main melody is a bit more handcrafted (in terms of the chord structure) than most of my other songs.

“Flow” is now available on Spotify, Youtube Music, iTunes, Pandora, Deezer, and a bunch of other places. Please check out this page for quick links to the album on major streaming sites (you can also sample the songs without going to any streaming sites).

In my next album I am planning on having some other instrument(s) in at least one track, possibly flute, recorder, or harp. I am also considering changing to a more complex microphone setup, but I’m debating if it is worth the time. If you check out the album, let me know what you think about the recording quality (and also let me know what your favorite song is).

I’m open to all feedback about my music via “ifpianoscould [at] gmail.com”.
