Japanese Calligraphy: variations of “月” (moon)

By | June 7, 2025

I have been studying Calligraphy off and on for a few years now, though with only a handful of lessons sometimes it feels like my progress is slow. Recently in Japan I bought a book called 漢字アート (Kanji Art) that shows some examples for how to draw more exaggerated, artistic characters.

I decided to try the first character, which is 月 (meaning “moon”). I drew a bunch of different variations, so I thought I would include all of them here. Which do you like best?
